AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - A man is behind bars after allegedly assaulting a woman.
On Apr. 25, police were dispatched to the 3500 block of Concord on a disorderly subject with a weapon.
When officers arrived the victim said she had been assaulted and held against her will by Stephen Velasquez, 33. She said he pointed a gun at her and held her in the house for several hours.
According to police, Velasquez left the house and then came back, kicked open the door, and physically assaulted the victim. Friends of the victim were on the scene when the suspect came back and were able to stop the assault.
Velasquez ran away before officers arrived, he was later located down the street hiding between a soft drink machine and a trash can.
Police say he had a chair in front of him and refused to come out. Officers say they could see he had something in his hand, but could not make out what it was.
Police informed Velasquez they would shoot him, and talked him out after several minutes. The item in his hand was later identified as a cell phone.
Velasquez was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a family member by impeding breath or circulation, and unlawful restraint.
He was booked into the Randall County Jail, and the victim did not require medical attention.
