Morning crash kills Borger resident, another hurt

HUTCHINSON COUNTY, TX (KFDA) - A tire blowout caused a driver to lose control of his vehicle and crash Tuesday morning in Hutchinson County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Ronald Smith, of Borger, was ejected during the crash and later taken to an area hospital. The 44-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later.

Smith and a passenger were westbound on SH-152 east of Borger when the back right tire of Smith's vehicle blew out. Smith's vehicle rolled over and threw him from the driver's seat. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Smith's passenger, 42-year-old Kelly Burris, sustained non-life threatening injuries during the crash. Officials said she was wearing her seat belt.

The wreck happened shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

No other vehicles were involved.
