Driver killed, passenger injured in weekend wreck

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - A Dalhart man is dead following a one-vehicle rollover late Sunday morning.

Just before noon, troopers say 74 year-old Troy Wharton was driving an SUV on state highway 102 near Dalhart when his vehicle veered off the roadway.

Troopers say he over-corrected, causing the vehicle to lose control across both lanes before crashing into a ditch and rolling into a nearby field.

Wharton was reportedly not wearing his seat belt during the crash, but his passenger, 72 year-old Betty Wharton was.

She was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Troopers say road conditions were dry, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
