BSA named one of nation's top 100 hospitals

NewsChannel 10 NewsChannel 10

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) -  BSA is the only hospital in the Texas Panhandle recently named as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Truven Health Analytics™, a leading provider of data-driven analytics and solutions to improve the cost and quality of health care.

“The 2016 100 Top Hospital award winners represent the highest national standards in hospital care and management. They set the benchmarks for peers around the country to follow,” said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president at Truven Health Analytics. “Hospitals in three out of the five report groups actually reduced overall expenses year over year, while improving patient outcomes – exactly the results that the entire industry hopes to attain.”

The Truven Health Top 100 Hospitals® study identifies hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value to their communities, based on a national balanced scorecard measuring overall organizational performance across 11 key analytic measures including patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability. The study has been conducted annually since 1993. The study shows that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of this year’s winners:

·      More than 104,000 additional lives could be saved.

·      Nearly 48,400 additional patients could be complication free.

·      $2 billion in inpatient costs could be saved.

·      The average patient stay would decrease by half a day.

“For well over a century, BSA has fostered an environment that allows employees to deliver superior patient care in alignment with our mission to provide quality health care in Christian love, service and dignity,” BSA CEO Bob Williams said. “The Truven 100 Top Hospitals® award is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to provide outstanding care and improve healthcare outcomes while controlling costs at every level of the organization.”

To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, Truven Health researchers evaluated close to 3,000 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals. 100 Top Hospitals researchers use risk-adjusted methodologies to analyze public health information – Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR) data, core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services “Hospital Compare” reports. Hospitals do not apply, and winners do not pay to market this honor.

BSA Health System is an extensive hospital system providing clinical excellence to the Texas Panhandle and the tri-state area. BSA is acclaimed for its superior quality and customer service. BSA is the fourth largest employer in Amarillo, with a medical staff of more than 450 physicians and 2,700 employees.
