AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - A babysitter and two young children are safe after escaping from a house fire Friday morning.

Just after 11:00 a.m., fire crews arrived on the scene in the 3000 block of NE 13th Ave. to find heavy smoke and large flames billowing from inside the home.

Officials say one of the children alerted the babysitter to smoke in the bedroom.  After seeing the smoke herself, they say the 18 year-old babysitter grabbed the kids, 3 years old and 2 months old, and left through the front door.

Responders had the fire under control within minutes, but the damage caused by the heavy smoke and flames was already done.  Crews estimate those damages to be around $32,000.

The cause of the fire has been ruled as undetermined, and no injuries were reported.
