AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Police in Fritch are offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to talk with a man involved in one of American history's most infamous moments.

As a fund raising effort, the department is auctioning off an opportunity to interview retired Dallas Homicide Detective James R. Leavelle.

Leavelle was handcuffed to Lee Harvey Oswald when Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby on Nov. 24, 1963, two days after Oswald assassinated President John F. Kennedy in Dallas.

He is remembered as the "man in the white hat" in the famous photo.

The winner of the auction will be announced on March 24, and they will have the opportunity to bring two guests for a sit-down interview with Leavelle at the Fritch Police Department on March 26.

100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the Fritch Police Department to help purchase equipment.
