Loop 335 rededicated as Veterans Highway

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - After almost a year of fundraising, some of the signs designating Loop 335 as Veterans Highway have been installed.

Veteran Jack Barnes, president of the American Fallen Warrior Memorial Foundation, received approval from area state representatives, city and county officials, and TxDOT to rededicate Loop 335.

Barnes believes it's time Amarillo has a memorial to remind people daily of their bravery and sacrifice. He thanks the Randall County Commissioners who purchased three signs and the City of Amarillo who purchased a fourth using grant money. Barnes says he relied on donations to cover the rest.

His biggest issue was funding, but lack of money did not stop Barnes from making the rename a reality. To properly rededicate the loop, there needs to be at least eight new signs costing 5,300 dollars and this week some of those signs were installed along the loop.

Today on The Early Show, NewsChannel10's Rachel Gollhardt talked with Jack Barnes about the process and his excitement to see the signs along the road.
