Driver in fatal wreck identified, faces manslaughter charges

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - The driver accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal crash in north Amarillo Monday faces felony charges, the Amarillo Police Department said Tuesday.

Officials identified the suspect as 44-year-old Sean Delroy Rawlins, who is currently booked into the Potter County Detention Center on Accident Involving Death and Manslaughter charges.

Police say Rawlins ran a stop sign at the intersection of NW 12th Ave. and N. Adams St. Monday morning and crashed into a car driven by Melchisedec Jackson. Rawlins's car continued forward and hit a parked car and coming to a rest in the front yard of a home in the 1100 block of Adams. St.

Jackson, 69, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police Rawlins left his vehicle and tried to flee the scene on foot. Police located and arrested him about two blocks north of where the wreck happened.

Rawlins was treated for minor injuries.

Police say the incident remains under investigation.
