CANYON, TX (KFDA) - This year the United Way of Amarillo and Canyon will be able to help more than 100,000 people.
At this point in their annual campaign, the organization has raised more than $4.3 million to help fund educational programs and those in need.
Saturday evening, the organization hosted its 15th Annual United Way Gala to celebrate the donors and volunteers that helped raise those funds.
"This was not the easiest year to raise money," said United Way Executive Director Katie Noffsker. "We did have a lot of things that were not working in our favor with the economy and different things going on with various companies, but at the very end people still dug down deep and they found a way to give. They found a way to support not only themselves, but their neighbors because when you support United Way you're supporting yourself."
Those who attended the gala were able to continue the fundraising effort through auctions and donations.
The United Way hopes to bring the total donations raised to $4.4 million by the end of the night.
