AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Hundreds of dirt bikes, four wheelers and ATVs are kicking up dust this weekend at the annual Canadian River Sand Drag Races.
With warm temperatures, wind and lots of people, fire danger was a concern going into this weekend.
The Potter County Sheriff's Office said one small fire sparked at the event Saturday, and deputies are urging residents to be careful as the sand drags continue.
"We're asking that we don't have any open fires," said Potter County Chief Deputy David Johnson. "Any cooking type fire needs to be in a barrel or something with a screen over it. It is a big concern. We've already had a fire earlier today that burned about a half acre, but there were no injuries or anything."
Deputies are also asking residents to drink responsibly.
The Potter County Sheriff's Office will continue monitoring the event throughout the night.
