Narcotic search warrant in north Amarillo, one in custody

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - An apartment search ends with a man arrested and a dog shot.

The Amarillo Police Narcotic Unit along with SWAT officers and DPS executed a narcotic search warrant at 1636 NW 18th #1 Wednesday afternoon.

During the execution of the warrant, police say 20-year William Rashaad Brackens ran from the apartment but was captured a short distance away

A search of the apartment led to the recovery of two rifles and two handguns. Three of the firearms were reported stolen out of the Amarillo area.  An AK-47 was reported stolen from Potter County and both pistols were reported stolen from Amarillo. Officers also located approximately ¼ pound of marijuana, three grams of crack cocaine along with drug paraphernalia.

During the search, a large dog tried to bite a swat officer. The animal was shot and taken by Animal Management and Welfare. Due to the dog not residing at this address, AM&W located and cited the owner for animal at large and rabies vaccination. The dog is currently being cared for by a local veterinarian and the animal is expected to make a full recovery after additional treatment.

Brackens was booked into the Potter County Corrections Center for Manufacture/Delivery Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1  over 1g-under 4 grams, Possession of Marijuana over 4oz under 5 pounds, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Evading Arrest/Detention.
