AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - The vehicle seen driving down a city alley shortly before a transient man was killed was not responsible for the victim's death, the Amarillo Police Department said Friday.

The pickup was captured on security footage early Thursday morning driving down an alley near V&M Discount, where 63-year-old Jesse Lester was later found dead after being struck by a vehicle. Investigators said the pickup was not driving in Lester's direction and the driver has been cleared of suspicion.

Traffic investigators believe the only other vehicle that had traveled down the alley was a fire unit with the Amarillo Fire Department. The unit was following up on a smoke call in the area shortly before Lester was found.

Police said the investigation would be forwarded to the 47th District Attorney's Office for review. They do not believe charges will be filed since there was no criminal intent.
