AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - U.S. Representative Mac Thornberry talked with Amarillo media Thursday morning about a variety of national issues and their impact on the presidential election.
One of the most talked-about topics on the campaign trail this week is the death and potential replacement of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
"Justice Scalia's passing even adds to the importance of this election," Thornberry said. "Now, it's not just the White House, the Senate and potentially the House, it's also the Supreme Court balance."
Thornberry is urging voters to make educated decisions on who they'll vote for in the upcoming Texas primary.
He says although the many issues that face our nation and shape our conversations about presidential candidates factor into that decision, he also recommends looking at news from around the world, citing potential threats in Asia and ongoing conflicts between Turkey and the Kurds.
"It just emphasizes the importance of this election and whoever we elect president being capable of being Commander-in-Chief in a really dangerous world," Thornberry said.
When asked about the presidential candidates themselves, Thornberry didn't express support for any one candidate.
However, he did share his thoughts on one of the Republican front-runners.
"I really have concerns about some of the things that Mr. Trump has said," Thornberry said. "But that's why I encourage people to really listen to what the candidates say, the positions they take, and then look at what's happening in the world."
