Amarillo, TX (KFDA) - Officers successfully arrested man for intoxicated driving after police say he attempted to resist.
On February 2nd around 10:20 a.m. police say an officer in an unmarked car noticed a man driving a pickup truck on I-40 using his cell phone camera, the officer reported he suspected the man was videotaping the unmarked car. Both vehicles exited at Soncy and turned eastbound on to the frontal road. The officer noticed the man was not staying in a single lane and made a lane change that cut another driver off. The officer pulled the man over in front of Westgate Parkway.
Police say the man was driving without a valid license or insurance and showed signs of intoxication. The officer, joined by a second officer, got the driver out of his pickup and attempted to arrest him. Police say the man resisted and tried to pull his hands toward the front of his waistband where a military style knife fell to the parking lot in front of the suspect.
The officers were able to arrest the man without any injuries and believe he was trying to reach for the knife to use against the officers.
Police searched the pickup truck and found a full syringe and a bag of white substance believed to be narcotics.
The suspect was identified as Jesus Salas.
Salas was booked into Potter County Jail and faces various charges including aggravated assault on a public servant, possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated and no driver's license or insurance.
