Man arrested after assaulting Home Depot employee

AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - A man was arrested after assaulting a Home Depot employee.

On Jan. 31, around 2:00 pm Amarillo Police Officers were dispatched to the Home Depot in the 2000 block of South Georgia on a robbery.

A loss prevention officer employed by Home Depot witnessed Clifford Wayne Clardy, enter the store and allegedly place 2-5 gallon buckets of paint in a shopping cart.

Police said Clardy then entered a check out line and made a return on the two buckets of paint, receiving in store credit on the items he did not paid for. Clardy then exited the store and was contacted by the loss prevention officer.

Clardy allegedly struck the loss prevention officer and they ended up in a struggle on the ground. Clardy ended up on top of the loss prevention officer with his forearm across the officer's throat.

A witness/customer observed the incident and assisted in getting the Clardy off of the officer. Officers arrived on scene and took Clardy into custody.

The officers investigated the incident and placed Clardy under arrest for robbery. Clardy was booked at the Potter County Detention Center for the charges of robbery, drug paraphernalia, and a local municipal warrant.
