AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - Preliminary autopsy results revealed the cause of 45-year-old Tyrone Titus and 42-year-old Dana Atkins as undetermined pending toxicology results. Toxicology results will be known in a few weeks.
Lieutenant Erick Bohannon of the Amarillo Police Department said when police arrived on scene Thursday morning there was no trauma to the victims that could lead to a cause of death. They also did not find any evidence of a possible suicide including a note.
Bohannon said an autopsy was ruled because they could not find a cause of death.
"Before the autopsies were done we could not determine the cause of death, it's not uncommon but it doesn't happen a lot," Bohannon said. "Sometimes it's very obvious and this time it's not, so we relied on autopsies."
The deaths are not just unusual for the police but for the neighbors of Titus and Atkins as well.
One neighbor said they seemed happy. She had never heard or seen them fight; however, Tuesday night she said she heard a man's voice say, "stop it now, stop it."
She claims Tuesday night was the last time she saw or heard from them.
Another neighbor said Atkins's daughter entered the unlocked home Thursday morning and found the bodies.
"I actually heard something and it was the girls crying and I went outside to check to see if everyone was okay and the next door neighbor over there she had said that she found the mom and the boyfriend," said neighbor Bria Craig.
As the incident remains under investigation the neighbors have the family in their thoughts and prayers.
"I wish closure for the family though, because its really important for them to have that," Craig said.
