AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) - A semi-truck fire, which sent a large black plume of smoke into the air Wednesday afternoon, is now out.
At around noon, Potter County volunteer fire crews were sent to US 287 north of Amarillo on a semi-truck that caught fire while traveling north on the highway.
The driver told officials that he "hit something" in the road, which struck the fuel tank and caused it to ignite.
The cargo trailer was detached before flames could reach it, but the truck itself was a total loss.
Crews managed to get the fire put out within minutes after they arrived.
The flames also started a small grass fire in the ditch next to the truck, which was also quickly put out.
No injuries are reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
