CLARENDON, TX (KFDA) - People across the panhandle showed up in the hundreds to support Riley Shadle Saturday.
The 17-year-old Clarendon High School wide receiver was severely injured during football game back in October. He is currently recovering from a spinal injury at a hospital in Colorado.
To help his family with medical costs, the community hosted a benefit with live music, a silent auction, a BBQ dinner and a bake sale at the Donley County Activity Center in Clarendon.
"We just hope to keep his spirits up," said Clarendon football player Taylon Knorpp. "We know how hard it is for him recovering in Colorado with rehab every day and I'm sure he gets discouraged. I just hope that our positivity will keep him going."
The benefit raised $45,000 to help Shadle cover his medical costs. More donations were made directly to the Donley State Bank, but that amount is not yet known.
