Man arrested for robbery at Home Depot

Amarillo, TX - An attempted shoplifting Sunday afternoon turned into a strong-armed robbery, according to police.

At around 4:20 p.m., officers were called to the Home Depot in the 2400 block of South Georgia.

A loss prevention officer at the store told officers they had witnessed the suspect, 27 year-old Brett Austin Leake of Amarillo, try to leave the store without paying for several items of merchandise.

When they tried to prevent the suspect from leaving, police say the loss prevention officer sustained multiple lacerations on his hands and arms in the fight that ensued, but they did manage to detain Leake until police arrived.

Leake was taken to the Potter County Correction Center on a robbery charge as well as an outstanding probation violation warrant out of Randall County.
