Amarillo, TX (KFDA) - United Supermarkets is celebrating its 100th anniversary in the Panhandle and with that celebration, the company is giving back to the community all year long.
United started Saturday by giving away 100,000 cupcakes at all 66 of their stores across Texas and New Mexico.
In May, United will kick off "100 Days of Giving" where the company will donate $1,000 to a different local non-profit for 100 consecutive days.
In April and June, United will also donate 100,000 pounds of food to local food banks.
"It's pretty exciting," said store director Dustin Kyle. "I started 21 years ago as a sacker, a little summer job, and I loved the company so I decided to make it my career. Because I love what United stands for and what United is about. It's about people, it's about community, and that's important."
As part of celebrating a century worth of service, United is also donating $100,000 to area schools. This January, shoppers can vote on their favorite school when they check-out. The schools with the most votes will receive up to $1,000.
