Xcel Energy warns customers of scam attempts

Amarillo, TX (KFDA) - Scammers are posing as Excel Energy agents in Texas and New Mexico.

These scammers are using phone calls to impersonate Excel employees and telling customers their power is about to be disconnected if they don't make an immediate payment over the phone.

Xcel Energy wants to remind their customers they will always send written disconnect notices through the mail if a customer is in danger of being disconnected for nonpayment.

If anyone gets a call asking for a payment, they should hang up and contact Xcel customer service agents to verify their account status.

Business customers can call 1-800-481-4700

Residential customers can call 1-800-895-4999
