Borger, TX (KFDA) - Christopher Guthery, 30 of Borger, was convicted of Sexual Assault by Hutchinson County Jury.
The victim, a 24 year old woman, testified that on September 8th, 2011, she was walking on east Wilson St. in Borger when she was grabbed from behind and shown what she thought was a gun. The woman was taken off the road and sexually assaulted twice before being let go.
A local citizen in Borger told the jury how she tipped the police off that Guthery could be a suspect.
The jury was shown a video interview of Guthery by Borger Police where Guthery initially denied the claim before eventually confessing to the crime. An air gun was shown to the jury as the weapon used by Guthery during the assault.
The jury deliberated for less than 30 minutes before finding Guthery guilty.
Due to Guthery's prior convictions of Aggravated Assault and evading arrest, the punishment range was increased 5 to 99 years in the Texas Department of Corrections.
The jury returned their verdict sentencing Guthery to 65 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Guthery will not be eligible for parole until he serves at least 30 years and there is no guarantee he will ever be paroled.
