Tablet pilot program at Amarillo Public Library

Tablet pilot program at Amarillo Public Library

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Public Library is beginning their tablet pilot program at their East and North Branches.

Five Google Nexus 7 tablets are available to check out for in-library use at each Branch, on a first -come, first-serve basis.

Director of Library Services Amanda Barrera said the program is being launched at the East and North Branches to increase the availability of public-access computers at the locations that need them most. "At this time, we don't have space at those two locations to increase the number of desk-top computers for public-access, so making portable tablets available will allow more of our patrons to access the internet for work or fun," Barrera said.

To check out tablets, patrons must have an Amarillo Public Library card in good standing, as well as a driver's license or other approved photo identification. The identification will be held at the front desk until the device is returned.

Internet use only cardholders may check out tablets and children under the age of 16 must have a parent present to check out a tablet. Check out times for tablets will be up to 90 minutes.

Tablets cannot be reserved ahead of time.
