Wanted sex offender apprehended at homeless shelter

UPDATE:  The wanted sex offender police were looking for out of El Paso is now in custody.

Dennis McAlisterr was found registered under a similar name at the Amarillo Salvation Army at 400 S. Harrison.

APD discovered McAlisterr was possibly homeless and started contacting local shelters in the downtown area.

He was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on the outstanding warrant.

El Paso, TX - The El Paso Sheriff's office Sex Offenders Registration and Tracking Unit is asking for the community's assistance in locating a wanted sex offender, Dennis McAlisterr.

McAlisterr previously reported a change of address claiming residence in Amarillo; however, he failed to register/verify with Amarillo, Potter County, or Randall County authorities. He also neglected to register with any other law enforcement agency within the state of Texas and has been labeled as absconded.

He was convicted of indecency with a child/contact out of Randall County; the victim begin a 12 years old female at the time of the offense. McAlisterr also has previous convictions for sex offenders duty to register.

Those with any information on the location of McAlisterr are asked to call the El Paso County Sheriff's Office at 915-538-2008.
