Morning fire leaves family without home

Amarillo, TX - An early morning house fire has left a family of three without a home.

The Amarillo Fire Department arrived at a house fire Monday morning around 8:10 a.m.

The home at 1344 SE 8th street suffered heavy fire and smoke damage throughout the home. AFD was able to bring the fire under control around 8:30.

AFD says the occupant of the home heard a loud noise from the back of the home, she searched the area and found a fire. The woman gathered her two children and ran out of the house. The family escaped the home without injury.

Fire crews were able to rescue two puppies from inside the home and reunite them with the family.

Officials believe the fire began in the back bedroom of the house but the cause is unknown.

Damage to the home is estimated at $30,000. The American Red Cross came to the scene to assist the family in temporary housing.
