Amarillo TX - The Amarillo Cannabis Culture is protesting the lack of enforcement of a cite and release law.
The law was created in 2007 and allows officers in the field to perform an arrest for possession of marijuana, then qualify the offenders as eligible for a field release.
If the offender qualifies for a field release, the officer releases the person with a summons to appear in court. The person arrested for possession of marijuana can be released with a summons to appear in court.
The organization gathered at the Potter County Jail Friday morning to protest what they believe is excessive costs to taxpayers and disregard to state law.
The group also gave away Christmas toys to the families of those who have been affected.
