DPS to increase traffic enforcement during holidays

Amarillo, TX - The Texas Department of Public Safety will increase patrols for an eight day period, which includes the Christmas and New Year holidays.

During the holiday last year DPS made 403 DWI arrests, cited 7,272 speeding violations, cited 724 seat belt/child safety violations, made 292 fugitive arrests, and made 166 felony arrests.

Due to those crimes, from December 24 through the 27 and December 31 through January 3, DPS troopers and law enforcement throughout the state will be patrolling roadways throughout the holiday weekends looking for drunk drivers, speeders, seat belt violations, and other dangerous drivers.
