APD investigating Monday night stabbing: One arrested

AMARILLO, Texas -- One local man is in custody after stabbing a family member in the back Monday night.

APD officers arrived to the 400 block of N. Grant after the victim's neighbor called police.

At the scene, police located a Hispanic woman with a deep gash in her back. The 30 year-old victim said she opened the her back door for her family member after hearing a knock at the door and recognizing his voice.

Then things got weird.

He began making strange comments about "killing his brother", and not wanting to hurt her before asking for the keys to her car with a pocket knife in hand.

The woman stated she did not know where the keys were, and tried to run out the door, but he grabbed her by the hair before she could make it out of the home. Then, the suspect saw the keys to the car nearby, and went to grab them, allowing the victim to break free from his grasp. She took off running out the front door. The suspect grabbed a nearby kitchen knife, and threw it at her, striking her in the back. However, she still managed to get out of the house and run to a neighbor.

The suspect stole the victim's car, a red 2007 Saturn, and quickly left the area.

Several minutes later, officers located him in the 900 block of S Arthur where he was taken into custody. The suspect, identified as 32 year-old Antonio Flores, was arrested and booked into the Potter County Jail on charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon-- Family Member.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, and police are still searching for her vehicle.

The "brother" that Flores claimed to have killed was located, safe and unharmed.

This incident remains under investigation.
