Amarillo, TX - A sub-committee is set to go to work on reviewing an Amarillo city ordinance that affects the homeless.
Ordinance 7333 restricts anyone from camping overnight on public property. This has turned into a controversial topic, as protestors claim the ordinance prevents Amarillo's homeless from staying warm during cold winter months.
The sub-committee consist of different homeless organizations, law enforcement, residents, and churches to study all aspects of this ordinance, as well as reviewing any and all current homeless resources, for 60 days.
The first meeting for the sub-committee will be Thursday at 3:00 in the afternoon at City Hall. The group will also set future meeting dates at this meeting.
