Amarillo, TX - Amarillo police are offering a free training course on how to respond to an active shooter situation on Tuesday.
The training includes the history and prevalence of active shooter events, how you can respond and medical drills.
This is the same course the Potter County Sheriff's Office is offering on multiple dates in January. The APD is trying to relieve some of the overwhelming response the sheriff's office has received for people wanting to attend the class.
The two-hour class is Tuesday at 6:30 at the Tascosa High School auditorium. Advanced registration is not required.
If you can't attend on Tuesday, the Potter County Sheriff's office is holding four active shooter training classes in January.
The first two have filled up, but classes on January 19 and the 21 are still available. Those courses will be from to 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the 11th floor of the Santa Fe building. You will need to RSVP by calling (806) 379-2929.
Both the Potter County Sheriff's Office and the APD say they will add more classes if there is a continued interest.
