Amarillo, TX - Road conditions across the Panhandle are deteriorating as ice takes over the roads.

The Department of Public Safety and the Amarillo Police Department combined reported more than 120 crashes as of Friday evening that happened in Amarillo and surrounding counties because of icy road conditions

Many vehicles have slid off the road into ditches and multiple semi-trucks have jack-knifed across the highway.

Overpasses and bridges are some of the most dangerous to travel on, as they are the first to ice over. Up to an inch of ice is expected to accumulate on roads through Saturday.

TxDOT said it has trucks on all major highways across the Panhandle putting down tracking material and de-icing agents to prepare the roads as much as possible for the next round of freezing rain.

TxDOT is warning drivers of icy conditions on nearly every major highway in the Panhandle. For the most up to date road conditions, view TxDOT's interactive map here.
