Gov. Abbott declares state of disaster in 15 counties

Governor Greg Abbott recently declared a state of disaster in 15 Texas counties.

It's the first step toward achieving federal aid for areas devastated by flooding last month.

Abbott is requesting that President Obama declare a major disaster for individual assistance. If that request is granted, residents in the affected counties may be eligible for grants of up to $33,000 from the federal government and low-interest disaster loans form the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The counties affected are Bastrop, Brazoria, Caldwell, Comal, Galveston, Guadalupe, Hardin, Harris, Hays, Hidalgo, Liberty, Navarro, Travis, Willacy, and Wilson.
