Jumpers take the icy plunge for Special Olympics

Amarillo, TX - Saturday's cold weather did not scare away a brave group trying to raise money for Special Olympics Texas.

About 50 people jumped into the icy water of the Amarillo Town Club pool for the annual Polar Plunge.

Carla Burr, one of the jumpers, said the 40 degree water did not take long to get out of. "Once you got in the water, you wanted to get out as fast as you could. It was so cold. Oh my gosh it was cold and I was trying to swim but it was so cold."

Burr said it was worth it for the cause Polar Plunge supports. The event raised a little more than $1,000 for Special Olympic Texas. The funds will provide year-round sports training and competitions for hundreds of area Special Olympics athletes.
