WRCA Rodeo draws thousands

Amarillo, TX - Thousands of rodeo lovers are wrapping up a weekend at the WRCA World Championship Rodeo.

Sunday was the last chance for the top 23 rodeo teams to compete in events such as wild cow milking, branding, and ranch bronc riding at the Amarillo Civic Center.

The rodeo attracted more than 30,000 people to Amarillo in the last four days alone, who spent money at hotels, restaurants and gas stations.

"It's kind of cool and I don't know if anyone knows this, but we bring in about $6 Million into the city of Amarillo in 4 days which is huge," said WRCA organizer, Kaycee Hooper.

The WRCA Ranch Rodeo has called Amarillo home for the last 20 years and recently signed a contract to stay in Amarillo for three more. Part of the proceeds from the rodeo go into the WRCA Foundation, which provides a crisis and scholarship fund for working ranch cowboys in need.
