AMARILLO, TX - As downtown Amarillo continues to grow, with new parks and green spaces and a vibrant nightlife, more people want to live right in the action.
Currently 100 downtown lofts are available or in development.
Melissa Dailey, Executive Director of Downtown Amarillo Inc, says the demand calls for 630 loft units over the next 10 years.
Double R Lofts on Grant at 8th Avenue is one of the newest loft developments, scheduled to open early next year.
The old warehouse-turned-loft-building holds 25 units, and their online interest list has 250 names on it.
And that's without really advertising.
Owner Darin Hudson says that's because of all that downtown has to offer.
He says you can walk home after going to restaurants and bars downtown, and even walk to work if you work downtown.
Another new development, The Lofts on 10th, are already sold out and they haven't even opened yet.
Across the street, the old Firestone building is also turning into a loft development.
Owner Gary Jennings says he plans to have retailers and store on the first floor, and lofts on the second.
The Barfield building on 6th and Polk with start renovations in the next year or so to create 56 lofts in the heart of downtown Amarillo.
