Amarillo, TX - An incoming storm already has the city and its residents to prepare for possible flooding.
The rain over the next two days will add to an already impressive year for rainfall totals and officials are already taking precautions for the storm. They have been widening storm drains (Hastings Road), preparing pumps, and planning for possible road blocks. However, authorities are not the only ones preparing.
Those who reside near the Playa Lakes are taking extra precautions as well.
Dawn Hallgren, the owner of Le Chateau Pet Resort Spa and Boutique, said she has been preparing for this storm since July when another strong storm flooded the grounds around her business for months.
She fixed our well, covered the septic tank, and dredged out the lake beside pet cemetery. Yet, Hallgren says she is worried about future flooding.
Local authorities say those traveling in the storm should avoid roads that are flooded and should not try and drive through them. They say find alternate routes to use and call 911 if someone is stuck in the flood water.
