Community Development Department provides assistance to residents

Amarillo, TX - Amarillo is helping local residents by providing them with the funds to restore or demolish unsafe buildings.

The program was created to assist low to moderate income property owners who have structures on their properties that need to be rebuilt or torn down.

Structures eligible for this program are residences, commercial buildings, or accessory buildings such a sheds or garages.

Amarillo's Community Development Department received a block grant that will completely fund each demolition or rehabilitation.

Community Development Administrator James Allen says the program expects to demolish thirty structures this year, but wants to rehabilitate as many structures as they can.

The department wants residents to know that they are there to help. They want to make Amarillo a safer and more beautiful place to live.

Residents who qualify for assistance can fill out an application in the Community Development Office in City Hall.
