Crews extinguish NW Amarillo house fire

Amarillo, TX - Investigators are working to determine the cause of a house fire that sparked up Wednesday morning.

Just before 10:00 a.m., officials say the blaze started in a small apartment unit in the 2600 block of NW 2nd Avenue.

Six units arrived on the scene within moments, and had the fire under control in under 15 minutes.

An official cause has not been determined at this time, but investigators at the scene say they believe it may have been caused by a smoldering cigarette left near a mattress.

Officials say no one was in the home when they arrived, and no injuries are reported.
