Children with disabilities given chance to fly

Amarillo, TX - Children with disabilities were able to use aviation as a tool to see that challenges do not mean limitations.

"Challenge Air for Kids and Friends Fly Day" took place at the Amarillo airport.

Ten volunteer pilots took children with special needs and their families up in the air to demonstrate the wonder of flight.

"We'll take those young kids up and we'll get them up at altitude and fly them around, and then we'll let them fly the airplane," Joshua Collier of Coyote Flight Centers said. "It's absolutely incredible to watch these young kids take an airplane and fly it themselves."

The event was founded by a Vietnam Naval Aviator who became a paraplegic in an aircraft carrier landing crash.

"Challenge Air for Kids and Friends" hopes to change attitudes of children with disabilities into attitudes of kids with capabilities.
