AMARILLO, TX - Dunkin' Donuts is building a new stand-alone store in Amarillo.
It will be on Western Street between Olsen and Emil.
This is almost the exact location where a previous Dunkin' Donuts once stood more than 15 years ago.
The chain has one location in Amarillo at the Petro Travel Center. It has been there for three years.
The store coming to Western Street is closer in town, and will be competing against local donut stores like Donut Stop for customers.
Krispy Kreme was the last national donut chain to come to town in 2002.
Due to strong support for local businesses, their stay in Amarillo only lasted about three years.
But Donut Stop owner Erin Dauer said she welcomes the competition that Dunkin' Donuts will bring.
"We differ from Dunkin' in that we are a locally owned business, donuts are our specialty and we make our donuts fresh every day," said Dauer. "Our loyal customer base and the taste of our donuts is the reason we have withstood other donut chains."
