Teenage girl accused of racing, causing wreck with injuries

Amarillo, TX - Three people are hospitalized and another faces felony charges after police say a street race caused a crash.

18 year-old Maria Pam Amaya is charged with racing on a highway resulting in an accident with bodily injury after police say she was racing with another person and caused a wreck.

It happened on Amarillo Boulevard Tuesday night at around 7:00.

Officers say Amaya, driving a black Ford Mustang, was racing with a white Acura along the boulevard, when a pick-up pulled out from behind the stop sign at North Cleveland.

Amaya's car reportedly struck the pick-up, which contained one adult and one juvenile along with an adult driver.

All three were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Amaya was taken to the Potter County jail and booked on her felony charge.

Police say they are still trying to locate the other car and driver accused of participating in the race.

If anyone is able to provide information on the white Acura or its owner is urged to contact Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400.
