Local first responders were treated to a free meal

Amarillo, TX - The organization, Woodmen Life, along with local Boy Scouts cooked hot dogs and hamburgers for firefighters, police and EMT.

Treasurer of Wooden Life, Janie Wilkins says Saturday was all about just saying 'thank you.'

"All of us have been affected by them some way or another and we wanted to just show our appreciation," said Wilkins.

Wilkins also says this event came at the most appropriate time because September 11th was just one day ago.

"Things can be crazy in this world. Police officers need to be appreciated," said Wilkins.

The organization says this is the first time they have done something like this, and plan to do it again every year in honor of 9-11.
