APD, SWAT, and negotiators investigate barricaded gunman

Amarillo, TX -  Officers evacuate several residents early Sunday morning in Amarillo after a family disturbance call leads to the assistance of Amarillo Police Department's SWAT team for the second time this weekend.

Around 2:30 a.m., officers were sent to the 6700 block of northeast 20th. Police say a woman told them the man she lives with, 37-year-old Samuel Deng Kuch, threatened to shoot her with a pistol and held her captive for about an hour. The woman was able to escape, however five children were still inside the home.

At this point, officers tried to contact Kuch but were unsuccessful. Around 4 a.m. APD negotiators and SWAT were called to the scene where they were able to make contact with one of the children inside. All five were able to escape safely through the garage door.

Kuch was eventually arrested and booked into the Potter County Correction Center on one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Domestic Violence.
