Canyon Drive traffic stop results in drug bust

AMARILLO,TX-- The driver in a routine traffic stop was arrested after police recovered an estimated 1.6 pounds of meth, and other drug paraphernalia on August 25, 2015.

Around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon, an Amarillo Police officer stopped a 2001 Dodge pickup on the 4000 block of Canyon Drive for a traffic violation, but after the driver was seen putting something into the bed of the truck, the officer became suspicious and asked the driver for consent to search the vehicle.

A narcotic detection dog was also requested, and the canine alerted officers narcotics to be present in the vehicle. A search was then conducted producing two small baggies containing what is believed to be approximately 1/4 ounce of marijuana in the truck's console, and a further search of the pickup allowed police to find six more baggies hidden inside a car stereo box located in the bed of the truck. The bags contained an estimated 1.6 pounds of a white crystalline substance which later tested positive for methamphetamine.

The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, Brian Paul Jones (aged 40), was booked into the Randall County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in addition to a charge of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.
