One dead after early morning car wreck

Amarillo, TX - An Amarillo man is dead after driving his vehicle into a tree early Sunday morning.

It happened around 3 a.m. when police said, 30-year-old Joshua Bowles was driving at a high rate of speed going west down Wolflin Ave.

An officer spotted Bowles and attempted to stop him, however before he could get close, Bowles made a quick turn south down Georgia and was still speeding.

The driver continued south to 26th, turned west, continued west to Britain, then turned south.

Police said the officer eventually caught up to the speeding car, however only to find it had struck a tree near the 2700 block of Britain.

Reports show Bowles lost control and crossed the northbound lane, which caused him to strike the large tree.

Bowles was pronounced dead at the scene, and there were no other passengers.

Investigators said they have not determined that alcohol was a factor and an autopsy is ordered on the body.
