The Union County Fair in Clayton is a fair for all generations. Many communities are gathered in Clayton for the annual Union County Fair.
Many generations come together to show their animals and present their projects hoping to move on to the state fair. This show helps the future of the farming communities by teaching younger generations what it means to raise and care for many different animals.
County fairs give students the opportunity to practice the skills they learn in the classroom and helping the student be successful after high school.
Clayton Agriculture Teacher Mike Barnes says "The responsibility that they get from the program is outstanding the life skills they learn. The responsibility that they don't get anywhere else in school is very, very important I think."
Farming organizations working with students are a major part of small communities such as Clayton. The fair is also a large contributor to the towns economy keeping the small town alive because the fair fills Motels and all of the food for the concession stand come from a local ranch market.
The Union County Fair runs until August 15th.
