One person treated after apartment fire

Amarillo, TX - Residents of a local apartment complex were evacuated around 7 o'clock Tuesday evening after a fire started in one of the units.

Fire crews arrived at the Peppertree Apartments near Paramount Boulevard and SW 26th Avenue to combat the flames around 7:15 p.m.

When fire crews arrived, everyone in the building had evacuated.

Officials said the fire started in a bedroom on the third floor.

A family of four was inside of their apartment when the fire started, and one noticed smoke coming from under the door.

The mother and two children left the building immediately while the father tried to extinguish the fire.

He was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.

The fire was under control by 7:42 p.m. and a pet rabbit was the only casualty.

The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined at this time.

Damages from the fire have been estimated at $60,000.
