APD: Man used taxi service as robbery getaway

Amarillo, TX - An Amarillo man was arrested early Tuesday morning after police say he used a taxi service to flee the scene of a robbery he committed.

Just before 2:30 a.m., officers say 46 year-old Duane Lamont Alexander called for a cab service to take him to Studio One Adult Store in northeast Amarillo.

While inside, police say Alexander implied he had a gun and demanded an employee to hand over cash from the register.

The victim tells police he followed the suspect out of the store and fired his weapon at the taxi as the suspect fled.

Officers caught up with the taxi later in the morning near Amarillo Boulevard and Grand Street.

Inside, they recovered the stolen cash, but found no weapon.

Alexander was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on a charge of aggravated robbery.

The taxi driver was questioned and released by officers after they determined the driver was unaware of the suspect's intentions to commit a crime.
