Amarillo, TX - Utility crews are currently working to repair a major water main break on 34th and Lipscomb.
The Amarillo Street Department has closed 34th Avenue in both directions between Ong street and the Travis Street stop-light.
The road is expected to remain closed overnight and repairs to the roads will continue Thursday morning.
Just moments before the water main burst, John McGinnis, a neighbor in the area saw the whole thing happen.
"I just happened to look over at the right time to see little brown bubbles coming up through the gutter and about three seconds later the whole thing ruptured," he said. He added that it sounded like "ice moving on water" when the pavement ruptured.
City officials say a 12 inch cast iron water main broke causing the flooding. While the water looked brown it was not sewage and there are no health concerns for residents in the area.
At this time one residence is without water due to the shutdown.
