DPS trooper traffic stop leads to seizure of cocaine

Weslaco, TX - The Texas Department of Public Safety made a traffic stop Sunday on U.S. 77, revealing more than 17 lbs. of cocaine valued at more than $1 million. 

At about 11:30 a.m. a DPS trooper made a traffic stop on a gray, Kia Sorento traveling north on U.S. 77 for a traffic violation south of Kingsville in Kleberg County. 

The driver was identified as David Strong, 62, of Brownsville. During the stop, the trooper found eight bundles of cocaine weighing 17.6 lbs, in a suitcase. 

Strong was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, a 1st degree felony, and was booked into the Kleberg County Jail.
